Getting Back to Work Safely
South Africa is currently working through challenges relating to the reopening of industry, schools, and civil society, with COVID-19 as part of the new landscape. In addition to managing related hazards and risks during our day to day activities, of major concern if the safe use of public transport to move our workforces to and from places of employment.
The mini-bus taxi industry is said to transport up to 70% of our national workforce, daily. Added to this, thousands of mini-bus taxis move our kids to and from schools and other educational facilities. The taxi industry is one with varying challenges, in the first instance. Added to these dynamics is the challenges that COVID-19 bring with it. To date, there has been little sign of quantifiable interventions on a ground level.
The need for objective and scalable interventions across public transport sectors are needed, to assist in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
